Life and Parent Coach

A Life Coach helps each of their clients to become increasingly proactive, rather than passive, and increasingly creative, rather than reactive, in the way they approach their lives.

This empowering and positive process of change can be effective within all kinds of settings to bring out the best in people and Coaching is now a recognised profession with established methods for helping people grow and excel both in their personal lives and their work.

(Comprehensive in-depth report and study of: ‘A Definition of Coaching’ by Noble Manhattan Coaching Ltd.)

In 2007 I qualified as a Life Coach with Noble Manhattan Coaching Ltd. in the UK. I am accredited with the International Institute of Coaching (IIC). As a Life and Parent Coach I can provide you with support to ascertain what you want for your own life.

I bring a wealth of experience working for over 20 years with young people to bear with regard to this topic and I deal with it in a way that is very down to earth and to the point.

Parent Support

I practice Integrative Humanistic therapy, with emphasis on EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming), Mindfullness based CBT. I provide a secure and supportive space for clients to explore their issues in confidence and safety. Therapy helps my clients to heal and make the desired changes in themselves, their relationships and their life in general. It provides them with the skills and tools to effectively deal with their issues into the future. I work to the ethical guidelines of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), so the client’s safety and well-being is paramount.

My office on Main Street Midleton is easily accessible, discreet and with free parking available nearby. I offer a limited sliding scale to students and to the unwaged. Session duration is one hour.

While I work with all general counselling issues, in particular I work with the following

• Grief, loss and bereavement.

• Suicidation and suicide bereavement.

• Trauma and post traumatic stress.

• Adult survivors of childhood abuse and trauma.

• Inner child work.

• Esteem and self-confidence.

• Sleep disturbance.

• Relationship issues.

• Anxiety and stress.

• Depression.

• Workplace related stress

• Dispute resolution, mediation

• Career counselling and support

• Personal development and growth.

• Life crisis, transition and change.

• Family Bereavement intervention & facilitation.

• Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM).

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) – for Individuals, Groups and Organisations. Also See http://www.teamcare.ie/
To Employers, Managers, HR personnel, Group Leaders:

• Do you have a concern for the well-being of an employee or group member?
• Has there been a death or suicide in the workforce, or in the family of one of your employees or group members?
• Has your organisation been affected by an accident or traumatic incident?
• Is productivity or staff morale being negatively impacted by somebody’s emotional or psychological health?

CISM is often described as ‘psychological first aid’, and is specifically for dealing with traumatic events. It’s a structured and professionally recognized process for helping people involved in a critical incident. It helps them to share their experience and vent their emotions. They learn about stress reactions and symptoms and it also provides referral for further help – if required.

The Health & Safety Authority (HSA) advises on ways to reduce the likelihood of work related stress and its effects, as well as ways to prevent short term stress becoming a long term problem. The services I offer are in line with these guidelines.

It is important to note that an Employer who offers a confidential advice service, with a referral to appropriate counselling or treatment services, is less likely to be found in breach of their duty of care to their employees.
In Irish law, injuries resulting in nervous shock which trigger post-traumatic stress disorder, are increasingly commanding more importance by both the medical profession, legal profession and the judiciary.
Generally, a potential claim, injury or issue can be resolved quite easily, at a fraction of the cost, at the beginning of the problem.

CISM interventions were first developed for use with military combat veterans in the U.S. and then for civilian first responders (police, fire, ambulance, emergency workers and disaster rescuers). These have since been adapted and used wherever there is a need to address traumatic impact in people’s lives.
There are several types of CISM interventions. Here are some examples:
(variations of these can be used for groups, individuals and even for families – depending on the situation)

One-to-one counselling:
For the individual, on a confidential basis. These sessions are conducted in my Midleton office.

Group Crisis Interventions:
Talk or discussion conducted with the group – usually conducted in the workplace or organisation:
• Debriefing: A group meeting or discussion about the distressing event – designed to mitigate the impact of the critical incident and to assist people to recover from the stress associated with it.
• Grief and Loss Session: A structured individual or group session following a death. It is designed to assist people in understanding their own grief reactions as well as creating a healthy atmosphere of openness and dialogue around the circumstances of the death.
• Crisis Management Briefing: A large, homogeneous group intervention used before, during and after a crisis – to present facts, facilitate a brief controlled discussion, Q & A and information on stress survival skills and/or other available support services. This may be repeated as the situation changes.
Follow-up and referral mechanisms for assessment and treatment, can also be provided, if necessary.

For more information, you can email me using the contact section below, or call me on 086 3375310 to discuss your requirements in confidence or to make an appointment.
Parenting courses

I studied parent mentoring in UCC for two years and graduated with a diploma in parent mentoring. I currently offer one to one parenting courses. Courses are designed to suit each individual’s different requirements. I have assisted many parents in having healthy relationships with their children. My parenting courses are recognised by the H.S.E., Barnardos and the Irish courts system.

In cases where separation and divorce proceedings are in the court system, many parents have found that having completed a parenting course was of great benefit to them in achieving a fairer result in relation to access of their children. The advantages of one to one parenting courses are:

Shorter waiting time

More Confidential

Tailor designed to suit your requirements

More support for you personally

Topics that are frequently disused are:

Parent /child conflicts
Discipline difficulties
Family conflicts
Partner conflicts
Improving communication
Good boundaries

Establishing good routines
Play and special time with children
The power of positive attention
Planed sanction system/time out
Dealing with tantrums
Poor bedtime routine

Anxious children
Behaviour management
Recognizing feelings
Improving eating
Promoting children’s play

I am currently updating my skills and knowledge following my original B.S.c.Hons) by continuing to attend courses and workshops to make sure that my clients benefit from, updated skills, practices and techniques from an authentic and ethical counsellor.

Counselling, Integrative Psychotherapy

Hello, my name is Suzanne Joubert. I am a pre-Accredited psychotherapist and member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP,) and work to their ethical guidelines. I have a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy and am currently completing an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy. Other training that I have completed over the years include Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Art Therapy. I offer a compassionate, kind and non-judgmental space, providing each person I see with a therapy that suits their needs, rather than a one-therapy-fits all model.

The journey to a more joyful, fulfilling and enriched life is at the heart of what I offer to people. Feeling depressed, anxious, or living with an eating disorder, are some of the difficulties people face that can be hard to shake off and deeply isolating. Having someone to speak to and establishing a sense of connection and trust, is in my view, an important part of the journey to happiness. A supportive environment through which people can explore what is not working in their lives, and work towards a better way of life, is therefore part and parcel of my way of working.

Clinical conditions that I work with include but are not limited to:

Depression
Anxiety
Adult survivors of Abuse and Trauma
Eating Disorders/ Anorexia/ Bulimia
Grief and Loss
Feelings of low self-worth
Compromised sense of Self
Relationship Difficulties
Sense of Isolation
Creative Blocks/ Lack of Creativity
Suicidal Ideation
Transition and change

I look forward to hearing from you. My mobile number once again is: 083 845 5815,

Best wishes,
Suzanne.
